Taliska Posted October 12, 2003 Report Posted October 12, 2003 Hi all, My new Galaxy has a multifunction steering wheel and after a hundred miles or so, I eventually sussed out how to get the Cruise Control going. I realised that it wouldn't come on because... I had my foot resting on the clutch peddle! Aarrrggghhh! Old habits die hard. The manual says there's an indicator light on the dash to show that Cruise Control is engaged - but it doesn't light up - is that normal??? Doesn't sound like it to me! The Cruise Control ON/OFF switch is mighty stiff on the steering wheel - I wonder that's related to the problem? Thanks for any ideas. Taliska Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted October 12, 2003 Report Posted October 12, 2003 Sounds like you have a bit of a problem with the Instrument Panel, with the bulb blown warning too. The CC warning light is a small speedo icon that lights green on the LHS of the Tacho. Quote
Taliska Posted October 12, 2003 Author Report Posted October 12, 2003 Hummm... methinks you're right. Taliska Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted October 13, 2003 Report Posted October 13, 2003 I take it from this then , SA I, that your cruise control light works. I have driven 4 Galaxys with cruise control (including my own) and on NONE of them has the light worked. Is this another Ford cost-cutting measure I wonder? Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted October 13, 2003 Report Posted October 13, 2003 It sure does. My dad's 2002 V6 Galaxy does too. Quote
pj_andrew Posted October 13, 2003 Report Posted October 13, 2003 I've never seen any mention of a CC light on the dashboard. It looks like its a Seat or VW feature but not the Ford. My Galaxy certainly doesn't have a light for the CC on the dashboard. Quote
HJT Posted October 13, 2003 Report Posted October 13, 2003 Mine doesn't have a CC light either. Howard Quote
Taliska Posted October 13, 2003 Author Report Posted October 13, 2003 It's all very curious... Do all those that have Cruise Control but no indicator, have a multifunction steering wheel as well? My manual's got a picture in - that's how I 'know' it's 'missing' !?! The Cruise Control ON/OFF switch on the steering wheel is very stiff - is that normal too? Cheers, Taliska Quote
HJT Posted October 13, 2003 Report Posted October 13, 2003 The CC switch on my Galaxy is stiff too and goes over with a loud click. Everytime I move the switch, the kids go "what was that?" (you'd think they'd have learn't by now :D ).I don't have the multifunction steering wheel on mine. Howard Quote
Taliska Posted October 13, 2003 Author Report Posted October 13, 2003 I guess it's made stiff so that it can't be switched on accidentally. :D Having said that I leave it on the whole time (well all 60 hours of ownership so far). I think I'll train the wife to switch it off when she drives it - just in case the buttons on the wheel get knocked. :D Taliska Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 I've not got multifunction wheel either, just the slider on the lhs stalk...and mine doesn't make a noise when operated. Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 According to the Seat Manual, the warning light (photo above) is there to warn against unexpected operation - which I guess means it is a passive safety feature. Shame it doesn't apply to all VAG output! Can't fathom that out at all. Quote
pj_andrew Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 I have CC but not the steering wheel controls (just the old style on the indicator stalk). As mentioned, no CC light in the dash. Quote
ridway Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 Cruise control - yes and workingMultifunction stick thing -noCruise control light -no(have had a look this morning)??? Rich Quote
Dave-G Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 mine gets stiff with certain ladies in the car - but i aint got cruise control Quote
Fordy Posted October 15, 2003 Report Posted October 15, 2003 My previous Galaxy diesel cruise control light didn't come on (car registered December 2000) so I checked several others at the time and none worked. My new Galaxy diesel (4 weeks old) does come on. It seems that this feature was deleted for a time. All of the warning lights are programmable as on or off with the FDS2000 diagnostic equipment, had mine checked but was found to be turned on so was not the cause of the missing warning light.Annoying - but wouldn't worry about it. iainkirk Posted October 15, 2003 Report Posted October 15, 2003 Belgian import 2003 MY Multifunction steering wheel Cruise control NO light on instrument panel. Quote
Guest Carl Posted October 15, 2003 Report Posted October 15, 2003 Just to add a bit more confusion, the cc light on mine works fine [Galaxy Ghia with multi funtion steering wheel] Carl Quote
Taliska Posted October 16, 2003 Author Report Posted October 16, 2003 This is very odd... Carl, is yours petrol or diesel / UK or imported? Fordy, is yours a new 130 BHP UK model? Mine's a 2003 115 BHP diesel - imported. Taliska Quote
Guest Carl Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 Taliska UK diesel March 2003 Carl Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 ref Steven Tunnicliffe's posting on dashboard/instrument panels and an unresolved technical problem, fingers crossed that this may also be the cause of nonworking cruise control lamps......Whether or not I'd risk letting the dealer loose to change the panel if there is a recall, just to get the light working, is another matter! edited to correct typo's! Fordy Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 Previous was 115ps registered December 2000Current is also 115ps registered last month.Regards Fordy Quote
Taliska Posted October 17, 2003 Author Report Posted October 17, 2003 If there's a pattern here, then it seemingly defies analysis! I must say that I sympathise with Ivor's thoughts entirely... Whether or not I'd risk letting the dealer loose to change the panel if there is a recall, just to get the light working, is another matter!Taliska Quote
NikNak Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 cruise control.................. yesmultifuntion wheel........... yes (left, right, honk honk B) )stiff switch...................... yes, sort of!cruise indicator light........ yes am i right in saying that the cruise will only work over a certain speed?? (i.e. above 30mph), similar to not being able to select a higher gear on an auto box if your speed is too low....... ? Nick Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 Cruise control on mine works as low as 20mph in 4th; I work on a large site (old airfield) and we have a 20mph site speed limit.Don't know if it works off the speedo/speed transducer or engine rpm. Quote
